Industry Project

For this assignment, I was tasked with a comprehensive project involving two other members where I was designing an outfit, creating patterns for another designer’s creation, and sewing garments from someone else’s patterns. The final deliverable was a multi-page brief with a presentation at the end. At the end, one of the biggest parts about this assignment that I learned was keeping up communication. Throughout the term, the three of us were also involved in the school fashion show, so we all found it difficult to discus our ideas and get moving in the right direction. Finding times to collaborate and give each other patterns in time was very difficult but through perseverance, we were able to get it done.

There was a lot of issues when it came to this project. Again, rounding back to communication where we found how hard it could be just looking at an image and trying to make someone’s idea become reality. The photos shown here are all the adjustments needed to be made for the final fittings of our garments.

Working with VStitcher

As part of my coursework in fashion design, I have been introduced to VStitcher, a cutting-edge 3D garment visualization software. Our assignments involve creating a range of garments, including pants, shirts, and jackets, using this tool. Initially, I found VStitcher to be quite complex, with its extensive features and detailed interface presenting a significant learning curve.

In the beginning, I spent a lot of time attending lectures and following step-by-step tutorials provided by our instructors. These resources were invaluable as I navigated the initial challenges of the software. Each assignment pushed me to explore different functionalities of VStitcher, from fabric simulation to pattern drafting.

Through consistent practice and application of the concepts taught in class, I gradually became more comfortable with VStitcher. I learned to appreciate its ability to simulate real-world fabric behaviors and visualize garments in a three-dimensional space. This was particularly useful for our assignments on creating pants, shirts, and jackets, where understanding the fit and drape of different fabrics was crucial.
